Dr. Richard Sams has been in pastoral ministry since 1995 and has been serving as
the pastor of Calhoun Baptist Church since May of 1999. He is a Kentucky native
who holds a Doctor of Ministry degree from the Southern Baptist Theological
Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. Presently, he is also pursuing a Ph.D. in
Theology at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Dr. Sams also has two
masters’ degrees (Master of Divinity and Master of the Arts of Religion) from
Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary in Lynchburg, Virginia. He has previously
served as an adjunct professor for Mid-Continent University and has served on the
Pastoral Leadership Advisory Board of Liberty University. He is married to Shawn
Sams, who received a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from Liberty
University and is the current Senior Manager of Clinical Operations and Quality
Control for a pharmaceutical company. They have three grown children: Allyson
Cooper, Haley Grace Sams, and John William Sams, along with their first
grandchild, Mia.
